Winn Maddrey, Founder & President
Lauren Friday, Project Coordinator
Blue Nine Partners was founded in 2003 by
Edwin E. Maddrey, III (Winn).
Winn advises businesses and leadership teams
on strategy, management and communications
to achieve the next stage in their lifecycle.
For more than a dozen years, Winn has served
as a strategic, public relations and communications
advisor, including stints with the US House
of Representatives, the US Department of Commerce,
Crescent PR, Inc. and Capital Strategies.
Winn works with company leadership, of public
and private entities, in strategic and communications
roles to develop and execute programs that
meet long and short term objectives. He counsels
on growth, product/service launches, joint
ventures, business change/realignment, transition,
merger, acquisition, divestiture, crisis and
distressed/turnaround situations. His experience
spans many industries and includes financial
services, technology, telecommunications,
healthcare, medical devices, software, professional
services, utilities and manufacturing among
others. Winn is president of Blue Nine Partners,
Inc., a business advisory firm focused on
management and communications counsel.
In 1997, Winn founded Crescent PR and led
the marketing, public relations and communications
firm until its Dec. 2001 merger with Capital
Strategies, a Raleigh, NC-based communications
firm. Winn joined the Capital Strategies
management
team and led the Charlotte office in client
relationships and business development. Capital
Strategies is one of the largest communications
firms in the Southeast and was consistently
ranked nationally by industry publications
PRWeek and The Holmes Report.
From 1991 until he founded Crescent PR, Winn
served in several communications roles. He
worked for a Member of Congress, Elizabeth
J. Patterson (SC-4th District), and served
as speechwriter and legislative correspondent.
He worked for the US Dept. of Commerce in
international trade and served as the communications
officer for a 100-person office, advised on
policy and political issues, wrote speeches
and was part of an international trade negotiations’
team.
Winn is a Davidson College graduate with
a BA in History. He is a member of the board
of the Metrolina Entrepreneurial Council
and serves on the business plan review committee
and the strategic planning committee and
has served in leadership roles at the Charlotte
Chamber, the Arts & Science Council, the
Foundation for the Carolinas and the United
Way, among
other civic and public policy involvement.
In his spare time, Winn enjoys reading,
photography
and traveling with his wife, the former Elizabeth
Love, and their sons.
Lauren Friday serves
as a Project Coordinator at Blue Nine Partners.
In this role, Lauren is instrumental in working
with clients and their respective audiences
to expand their business, gain additional
awareness and find creative solutions for
their short and long-term goals. Lauren works
on media relations, community relations, account
planning, writing, communications counsel
and marketing projects. She works with clients
in the technology, healthcare, financial services,
professional services and other industry sectors.
She also works on business development and
Blue Nine Partners initiatives.
Lauren is an Ohio native and recently moved
to the Charlotte area. She arrived in Charlotte
in 2005 and has gotten involved with several
community organizations, such as the Charlotte
Chamber and the Charlotte Chapter of the Public
Relations Society of America.
Lauren graduated from Ohio University in June
2005 with a BA in Organizational Communication
and a minor in Marketing. In her free time
she enjoys running, cooking, dining out, vacationing
in Hilton Head and Cape Cod, and cheering
on her favorite team, the Boston Red Sox.
